Walk to School Day October 4th

October 4th is international walk n roll to school day.

In partnership with our PTSA, we are partaking in this event with students and families in the morning.  We invite as many of you that are available to join us for a short walk from Risdon to Hazelwood starting at 8:10 am.  When we arrive to school, we will meet everyone on the playground and at 8:30 am have the rest of the school join for a school wide movement walk around the playground and field together!

Free Meals for most students 2023-2024 school year

Thanks to a state and federal funding, Renton School District will provide breakfast and lunch meals free to most students this school year. All students can eat school breakfast and lunches free except at Risdon Middle School, Hazen High School, and the H.O.M.E. program. Unfortunately, the federal Community Eligibility Provision grant formula left our district unable to include students those schools.

Families at these schools can still complete a free/reduced meal application to qualify.

School Supplies 2023-2024

Renton Schools provides school supplies for all elementary and middle school students in classrooms at the start of the school year. Families pay a low, one-time fee of $30 ($10 for families on free/reduced lunch) for enough school supplies for the entire school year (backpacks and lunchboxes not included). Families who wish can continue to bring their own school supplies. High school students will continue to provide their own school supplies.

Cost for school supplies for full year is $30 ($10 for families free/reduced lunch). Families can pay the one-time fee through their Online Payment account or at their school.

Boundary Changes for 2023-2024 school year

We’re building a new elementary school in the Highlands/Sunset area of our district at 1075 Duvall Ave NE, Renton. The new Hilltop Heritage Elementary School will open this fall as we start the 2023-2024 school year.

Opening a new school requires that we also shift the boundaries of six nearby elementary schools. The new elementary school boundaries (found here) take effect as we start the 2023-2024 school year on August 30, 2023 (Sept. 5 for kindergarten students).

There are no changes to middle and high school boundaries.

Elementary schools that will have boundary changes:

  • Hazelwood Elementary
  • Highlands Elementary
  • Hilltop Heritage Elementary
  • Honey Dew Elementary
  • Kennydale Elementary
  • Maplewood Heights Elementary
  • Sierra Heights Elementary

Communication to families whose boundaries are changing

On March 20, 2023, we emailed a family-specific communication to all families whose school boundaries will change and whose students will attend a different elementary school beginning this fall (we will also mail a letter to those families.) Families whose students attend the schools listed above, please check your email for information on whether your school changes next school year (if you do not receive an email regarding a change, your student remains in their current school).
